Procrastination

Why do people tend to procrastinate so often? Do they think that the task will be completed when they return to it later? I have to admit that I am prone to procrastination. By making this post I am putting off an essay, math homework, and two projects! I know I will have to find the time to finish them all, but when I set my mind on doing any I'm supposed to I drift in the opposite direction sometimes being gone for a few hours. This is a common habit and a very hard one to break.
I think people tend to procrastinate because they don't want to do what they are supposed to do or are forced to do. If someone does something without being asked, it usually gets done a lot faster than something they are told to do.
I don't know if this is just a flaw of the human brain and is something everyone does at one time or another, or if it is a personal thing, in which everyone does it at one time or another. I guess this is one thing I will have to try not to do as often as I do it and be like one of those people who can't stand to procrastinate.
