As you can tell by the title, this post is about imagination. I got this idea when I was taking my dog for a walk and my imagination seemed to be working overtime; I kept thinking there was someone watching or following me. I would look in every direction after a few steps to make sure I was just imagining this. This led me to thinking about how fun life was when imagination dictated it and not school or chores. During the summer I would spend my whole day outside with friends making up new games to play whenever we got slightly bored. Now I sit inside basically all day either doing homework, reading, or sitting at the computer. Not much imagination in that. Well aside from the reading, depending on the book you may need some imagination. However, not much imagination should be required if the author has given you good descriptions. Getting back to the topic, I want to know why little kids have so much more imagination than people older than them. Is it because they don't know that the things they come up with can't always work or is their imagination just a way to keep them occupied?
I think I can speak for quite a few people in saying that I wish I still had the imagination of a seven year-old. I think it would be fun to always pretend to be a pirate or a princess. In fact I wish I could still go around saying that I want to be a fairy princess when I grow up because that would be a pretty darn awesome thing to be no matter what anyone else thinks. However, most people don't believe in fairy princesses and would think I am being idiotic. What gives children the authority to go around saying they want to be fairy princesses, pirates, and teenage mutant ninja turtles without being questioned? I don't think it's fair and I wish people my age had more imagination so I wouldn't be laughed at saying I want to be a fictional being.

ReplyDeleteDon't worry I wouldn't laugh at you, in fact I wish all the time that I was a fictional being. It would be amazing to be a angel, a vampire, a mage, if I could meet a nymph. It would be cool, if only my imagination could match that of my mind, if only these things could seem real. Well then I'd be crazy.
