Unknown

Don't let the title confuse you, this isn't a random post with an unknown topic, but it's simply about the unknown. Before I begin with the unknown I want to talk about fears. Some things I fear are spiders, bridges, darkness, and car accidents. I'm not afraid of them for what they are in general, but because of what can happen to me because of them. Spiders can bite me and potentially kill me, bridges could collapse right underneath my feet, something could be luring deep within the shadows, and car accidents could severely harm me or kill me. Basically, I am afraid of death and serious injuries. This is where the unknown kicks in.
A wise man once said, "It is the unknown we fear when we look upon death and darkness, nothing more" (Dumbledore/Rowling). This quote is alarmingly true. Why are people afraid of the dark? Be cause they DON'T KNOW what is in it. Little kids mainly think their are monsters under their bed or in their closet, which makes those places so horrifying. It's what thy don't know that scares them. With death we DON'T KNOW how we will die, therefore we are scared of things that could potentially kills us. If we knew that we would die of a car crash, we would probably be scared of cars. However, we wouldn't be afraid of the dark because we know that there is nothing there that is going to kill us because we know we are dying of a different cause. As you can most likely tell by now, we are afraid of the unknown rather than random things in general.
Tell me, do you agree with this theory or not and why? Also, what are you afraid of and why?
